The Goose

A man on a dirt-poor farm during the Great Depression rescues a goose trapped in a barbed wire fence. Later he meets a mysterious young woman and marries her, despite his mother’s objections that she is “a strange creature.” She seldom speaks and seems unfamiliar with simple tasks and customs. She is able to rescue the family from ruin by weaving beautiful blankets they can sell, insisting that no one watch her while she works.

Adapted from the traditional folk tale The Crane Wife, The Goose is a story of identity, self-sacrifice, belonging and the price of true love.
