A One Human Being, Potentially Comedic Performance of Beauty and the Beast

  • Living the Dream

Be our guest! Local high school drama teacher Alli Perlov brings a brand new show in the style of her Les Mis and Nightmare Before Christmas interpretations. Can she sing? Not really. Can she act? That’s debatable. Will you laugh? Oh… probably.

Perlov plays dozens of characters, some human, some animal, and many objects, in a comedic exploration of the tale as old as time, Beauty and the Beast. In an homage to this brilliant musical adventure, through witty commentary and unstoppable energy, Perlov aims to entertain an audience that isn’t forced to be there like her students.

  1. This is one of the best performances! Very creative and fascinating play! Highly recommended! 10 stars!

  2. I loved every second of this show and I laughed the whole time. Highly recommend.

  3. Everything’s been said in other reviews about how much this show is PHENOMENAL; it’s my favorite Fringe comedy (and musical) so far! What. A. Show-woman!!! I was not expecting something SO ELABORATE and insanely creative! This is 1000% the work of a passionate school teacher, you can tell just how all the creativity, crafts, activities and ways to engage your audience all throughout –with well-dosed participation– come from years of heartfelt experience and true vocation.
This show had everything and beyond!

We belly laughed the entire show (and even the pre-show!), and I would go again if I could.
10/5 stars, and I will definitely remember this name and hope to catch next year’s gem!

  4. One person… so many characters… how does she do it? Go to the show and be amazed! Fun! Funny and so creative, plus you might learn a thing or two. We attended the Tuesday evening show.

  5. Alli Perlov has become a fringe tradition ever since I wandered into her one human being rendition of Les Mis. A structured show with the feel of improv, she is always very entertaining, but she has gone above and beyond with her set and props this year. I think you will get the most out of the show if you have at least a passing familiarity with the story she’s riffing, but you shouldn’t let it stop you if you don’t. This show embodies the spirit of fringe in my opinion.

  6. Absolutely hilarious, engaged the audience in the best way possible, incredibly creative, and brilliantly written and performed – this show is a must see or a must see again!

  7. Fantastic show! Engaging and entertaining. A must see! We left the theatre singing.

  8. Amazing performance of Beauty and the Beast. Well worth your attention and even an opportunity for involvement. 🥰

  9. Great show! The right amount of parody along with personal touches. I belly-laughed through the entire hour!

  10. Fun and funny with fantastic audience participation at the show I attended on Sunday evening. I laughed out loud a few times and normally it takes a lot to get that kind of reaction from me. Highly recommend!

  11. Super funny!!! My favourite one by this human being to date! Absolutely loved it!!!

  12. We absolutely loved this show! We left the auditorium amazed by her versatility in switching between characters, her energy, sense of humor, and of course, the creativity it took to put this show together. Highly recommended!

  13. A fun, interactive show, perfect for 90s babies, a great mix of songs from the movie, animated film, and some nice extras! A must see! Alli sells you with her passion for performing and realness.

  14. I had fun yelling out my one line as a village mob member!
I loved this show and the collaborative effort provided to enhance the one wildly talented performer onstage!

  15. So talented. Much more than potentially funny. Loved all the costumes and the props too.

  16. A must see for sure!! My favorite show of the Fringe this far, she is absolutely charming and hilarious! Perfect for all ages and in the cutest little theatre. My 17 yr old daughter and I had such a great time! Definitely go see this one!

  17. Great show! An amusing portrayal of the story that pokes fun at the details that don’t quite make sense. Lots of fun audience participation, without forcing it. Make sure to arrive early to engage with some of the audience participation! Overall a great performance.

  18. This one-woman show was entertaining even before it started and right until the end. Not just a re-telling of the classic movie/musical, it contained editorials, reminiscence, “tales out of school” and the perfect amount of audience participation. Fans of musical theatre or the Disney animated film will appreciate some inside jokes but the audience is really anyone (probably 12+ in my opinion). Ally served up laugh after laugh after laugh in this show. We found ourselves laughing over and over at her commentary, singing, song parodies and costumes changes. You can tell she put a lot of work and practice into this show, with hilarious results!
