When the god of death runs out of minions but a mortal needs to face their past before they die, the boss has no choice but to step in.
Of course, it’s just Tom’s luck to not only find out he’s dying but to be escorted through his most painful memories by a slightly surly deity who’s out of practice. At least his best friend Jackie (and her trusty cactus, Angie) are coming along as emotional support. They can face anything as long as they’re together… right?
Written by Daniel Gilmour, who left the world’s stage too soon. Cactus is a dark comedy about life, death, love and loss that we now perform in his memory.
There are some genuinely funny moments, and the audience was very moved at the end. An emotional piece, perhaps pack some kleenex.
A wonderful and poignant show with a gut punch ending so we’ll acted I did have tears. A phenomenal tribute to Dan and something everyone involved should be immensely proud of. Go see this show!
I ended up at this show by chance and am so grateful that I did! Cactus absolutely blew me away. The story was engaging, the humour was great and the ending was breathtaking.
By far the best show I’ve seen at this years fringe.
Cactus is an outstanding show, with an excellent balance of humour over top a very difficult topic. The actors have great chemistry and the production is very well done. It is a must see show!
Excellent! Do not miss out on seeing this one!
Emotional, well portrayed, well thought out, I plan on seeing this again.
This is a must see for those that have lost something far too soon. As we did with the talented and much loved playwright.
From the moment the lights dimmed to the end of the final act, I was mesmerized. The cast flowed together so naturally that it could have been a real life scenario. So well done to executed and an amazing story to be told. Well done…a must see
Saw the show on Thursday. Very heartfelt. A perfect tribute.
Despite the somewhat awkward and distracting presence of one completely unnecessary character, “Cactus” is a poignant and moving play that comes together in the last few minutes for a surprising emotional gut-punch. Well worth seeing and thought-provoking, with strong performances from the cast.
Amazing!! Well worth the price of admission…i would have paid more. Made me laugh made me cry. Flawless execution. Kudos to everyone involved in this production.
Must see heart-felt show. Tight dynamic with performers, especially after one performer miss-judged the size of stage and took a tumble and the scene was “saved”.
On with the show attitude. 🥰
Admittedly, I went to this show because I know people involved and I wasn’t really sure what to expect. I was completely blown away. The script was fantastic! (RIP Dan). Things that could have been gimmicky weren’t. The acting was genuine, the humour was hilarious, and, by the end, you could feel all the emotions the characters were feeling (and hear it, as many people in the audience were sniffling). Go see this show!
As an aside, and this has nothing to do with the show, but could venue 6 please add a blue light or something to the down stage left corner?? This is the second show I’ve seen where an actor has fallen off the stage in the EXACT same spot. It’s terrifying. Please do something.
Cactus drew me in from the opening to the surprise ending. Grief is explored and hits hard. Well done cast and crew!
Cactus blew me away. Outstanding cast and had quite a few standing ovations for first show of the Fringe.
Poignant, funny, and original. I cried.
