Toronto-based singer-songwriter Duane Forrest presents his captivating, award-winning music-storytelling show at the Winnipeg Fringe. With a deep personal connection to his Jamaican roots and a profound admiration for Bob Marley, Duane takes the audience on a journey through the history, cultural impact and timeless songs of the reggae icon.
Born to Jamaican parents in Toronto, Duane’s exposure to reggae shaped both his music and life. Through storytelling, live music and audience interaction, he shares how reggae transformed his life and became a global phenomenon, all while capturing the essence of Bob Marley’s music.

I don’t know what I was expecting from this show, but I sure wasn’t expecting something so deep, heartfelt, humorous, emotional, humble and humbling. Duane is very charismatic and captures his audience with a smile, a laugh, beautiful music and storytelling, as well as, of course, with an enchanting voice and connection to reggae. The songs transport you in time and place to Jamaica, to the origins of the genre and you cannot help yourself from singing along, especially on Duane’s friendly requests!
The whole room was transcended by the music.
This performer deserves to be sold out every single show, and every Fringer should attend!
This is my favourite of the Fringe so far this year. Duane welcomes you into his world, and shares Bob Marley’s too. There is a good mix of story telling, history, and of course Reggae music, that will have you singing along, and you will leave with a smile on your face. Go see this show! 🙂
This was a beautiful show paying tribute to his roots, the history and the power of music. Duane is a phenomenal performer and has a charismatic charm. I hope he comes back to Winnipeg again! He got 2 standing ovations in the show I attended last Friday! Nuff respek Duane!
Best show we’ve seen at the Fringe this year! Duane Forrest was a great storyteller, musician and singer. We learned something too. It was so great to hear the history behind the lyrics. Awesome! Hope to see more of Duane in the future.
This is everything the Pete Seeger tribute show should have been but wasn’t. Duane Forrest is an extraordinary showman whose gentle voice and easygoing style belies his extraordinary talent as a guitarist, storyteller, and especially as a vocalist – the man BECOMES Bob Marley when he sings! Guiding the audience through the fascinating history, evolution, and social underpinnings of Reggae, by the end of the show he had everyone in the palm of his hand and singing along to all the greatest hits. It was an intimate and magical experience. A must-see this year!

Left smiling ear to ear. Whether you love reggae already or a new to it you will learn, laugh, have tears come to your eyes and sing along. Duane is an absolute delight!

Fringe magic! I am not very familiar with reggae or with Bob Marley, but I loved every minute of this. I hope this is the first of many visits to Winnipeg for Duane – he’s a huge talent!
Wow. I dare you to go see this and not enjoy every minute. Musically and theatrically, so talented. I wished the play was longer – more songs, more storytelling. Hopefully he will come back to Winnipeg in the future!! Welcome to the prairies, Duane!

The story telling and music was all well done. The performer was wonderful! The audience happily joined in the lovely singalongs. Come learn about history.
It ended with a standing ovation. I could tell people wanted more. Thinking of going again just for the friendly vibes ^_^
