- Hoop and Hat
Step into a whirlwind of comedy and circus as two vaudeville performers battle for the spotlight! Chris without the Hat, a quick-witted juggling comedian, and Carla Cerceau, a master aerial acrobat, stop at nothing to upstage each other and be the star of the show. Jokes fly, tricks dazzle and chaos unfolds as their rivalry escalates into a hilarious spectacle. With unexpected twists and non-stop antics, this fast-paced showdown proves that in showbiz, the only rule is to entertain. Who will win? Join us and decide for yourself!
For some reason this is the only show I saw that didn’t include a land acknowledgement.
While the tricks and hoop parts were fun and entertaining, the “little girl” act that Carla was doing made her mid-performance monologue on feminism meaningless. “I’m tired of tugging on my clothes..” yet continued with the trope the entire way through, even while advertising her own business after the show. All in all a bit boring but was well-received by the audience.
What an entertaining show to take in at Fringe! I enjoyed the back and forth between the performers, and was glad to hear they are a local, so hopefully can see what they come up with next! Go see this show!

Congrats to Chris and Carla on a wonderful show. They are both consomate performers whose “shtick” is very funny, with some beautiful, poignant moments, as well. Chris dominates the first half of the show with whit and song and dance and juggling. However, Carla brings it home with a poignant, from-the-heart monologue, and then WOWs with her aerial “ring” performance. A must see!
What a wonderful team! Did not expect to cry in the middle of the show, but dang. The acts were great, the gags were phenomenal
This show was sweet but could have been even better with good direction. There were many opportunities to make it funnier and more engaging. The Monopoly bits didn’t work and were distracting because they didn’t fit with the rest of the show. Carla’s aerial performance and her aside were excellent additions and an indication of what it could be.
Hoop and Hat: Vaudeville Showdown is a genuinely delightful experience, with a story that appeals to both the young and the young at heart. The dynamic duo of Chris and Carla play off each other with irresistible charm and energy that is, more often than not, downright adorable.
But this isn’t just lighthearted, bubblegum entertainment—woven throughout are moments of real poignancy and emotional depth.
The undeniable highlight of the show is Carla’s aerial performance: a breathtaking display of strength, grace, and talent that seems to defy gravity itself.
In all, Hoop and Hat delivers a thoroughly enjoyable and memorable time.

All in all, it’s a truly fun and heartwarming show that’s well worth seeing.
My first Fringe Show ever, and it was a delight! A few thrills too (no spoilers!), which put me at the edge of my seat (2nd row from stage)! The youngest audience members really got into the performance, and appreciated the myriad of comedic deliveries and skills of Carla and Chris!
Chris and Carla have been performing together for years and this is their best show yet. They have honed their skills to prepare this entertaining hour of stunts, comedy and a surprising moment of truth where Carla gave a really heartfelt monologue.
I loved it! So silly! So full of DANGER! Highly recommend checking out these two local legends of Winnipeg’s circus scene.
Come one come all! See this wondershow of fun! Tricks, jokes and dangers galore! Watch as these two brilliant and brave performers take the jibes and challenges in equal measure, straight on the nose! Or chin as it were. Or cheeks. A riot! A spectacle! A real hurly-burly!
Went to the show on Saturday. It was a true testament to what the fringe is all about. The hoop and hat show lived up to its reputation of being a highly entertaining and funny vaudeville act. Chris’ talent for comedic timing and effortless expertise in juggling was truly an experience one should not miss. Carla’s seamless and mesmerizing performance on the ariel hoop made this viewer not want it to end. She’s truly a beauty with the strength of a superhero and dazzled all of us. The biggest disappointment of the show was that it had to end. Wonderful!
This show had me laughing from start to finish with a some great theatrical twists throughout. I was thoroughly entertained! Definitely a must see!
Just got out of the show and it’s great! Very funny all the way through with some great performances by both artists. I recommend!
