  1. Such a well planned out show from beginning to the climactic end! Brett was engaging and had great audience involvement and sprinkled in some humour with his many illusions/tricks and historical information about Houdini. Would definitely recommend this show to family and friends! Thanks Fringe!!

  2. Shows like this are why I relish the Fringe. Brett Oddly offers his own take on the Houdini mystique by casting himself as Houdini. The journey back in time is a delightful adjunct to the main event: bringing Houdini’s wonders forward in time to us, here and now.

  3. The Houdini show is an fine show of magic and escape
acts. The performer is well skilled at his craft. A must see at the Fringe!

  4. I have seen a fair few magic shows over the years, and with my lack of eyesight, they can be a bit hit and miss at times. If the reveal is small or subtle, I can often miss it. Brett Oddly – I mean, Houdini – was great in that regard. One, because a show about escapes is a lot easier to see than close-up magic, and two, because even for some of his other tricks, he took visibility into account (i.e. replacing tiny needles with more visible razor blades for one trick). This is right up there with the best magic shows I’ve seen, and it has the added, historical interest of being a recreation of a performance that Houdini himself gave in Winnipeg over a hundred years ago.

  5. B. Oddly spices up the traditional magic / escapology act by attempting to recreate, as closely as possible, Houdini’s original setlist from when he performed in Winnipeg in 1923. From card tricks to the squirm-inducing Indian Needle Trick, debunking spiritualism, Houdini’s signature suspended straitjacket escape, and even a demonstration of how to escape duct tape handcuffs (!) this show has it all. That said, some of the pacing and the interstitial narration segments could use a bit of polishing/tightening up. Otherwise, however, a thoroughly enjoyable and educational experience that would have made Houdini proud.

  6. Edutainment! The magical feats left my jaw on the floor! And I learnt a fair bit about Houdini. Would recommend!
