The Winnipeg Free Press has run amok, reviewing each and every Fringe show over past two decades without consequence or recourse. Now, it’s their turn… again. In this refurbished work that debuted at last year’s Winnipeg Fringe, Benji Rothman once again takes the Winnipeg Free Press to task. In this (mostly) new, (hopefully) hilarious 45-minute show, Rothman dives deep into their past and exposes their faulty journalism, imbalanced reporting and, of course, embarrassing typos.
glad to experience this show 🙂 I was a little torn between the blasĂ© and the obvious care of Benji, but the concept is great. it would be cool to see benji’s comparative reviews to the free presses 2 star ratings… maybe in 3?
This show is very funny, very good for someone who appreciates fringe and media criticism with a healthy grain of salt. Benji is hilarious but his amazing physique is somewhat distracting at times. 3.5 stars. Jkjk 5 STARS!
The “2” felt a bit misleading with this show. I saw the original late in its run last year, so even most of the new bits (about last year’s review, for example) had already been incorporated. It also didn’t flow quite as smoothly as last year, though it’s quite possible for that to be chocked up to opening night jitters. All that being said, this is genuinely a funny show, and a somewhat vindicating take down of the crushers-of-dreams that many reviewers are. I have no doubt this run will become more polished as it goes along, and if you didn’t get the chance to see the show last year, I would strongly recommend taking this opportunity to do so.
