SugarBoyz: A Boy Band Musical

  • JHG Creative

Years after splitting up, a member of a once famous boy band attempts to get the group back together. With the tragedy that separated the boys still lingering, they start to wonder if they can ever recapture the magic that once made them great.

Sugarboyz’ catchy pop tunes, snappy dialogue and thinly-veiled innuendos will be sure to transport you back to your favourite boy band era!

Sugarboyz: A Boy Band Musical was created by the two-time Harry S. Rintoul Award-winning JHG Creative that brought you The Mailroom (5 STARS), World’s Fair 1876: The Centennial Exposition (5 STARS) and Breaking Up With Me (4 1/2 STARS).

  1. This show was absolutely INCREDIBLE! It was hilarious on so many levels, yet oddly poignant and heartfelt. I found myself laughing for the whole hour- I can’t recommend it enough!

  2. I saw this show twice, first time there was a lovely 10 pm crowd on a Monday night! The jokes landed equally both times, I found myself laughing as hard the second time as the first time even. The singing was phenomenal and all the actors really portrayed the boy band feel in a great way through their voices. The first time I even shed a couple tears at the end of the show, which is unusual for me, so I loved that! Personally I think JHG should look into making a cast album for this spectacular show!

  3. People are right, this was great!! It’s a musical (of course, that makes sense) and has so many laugh-out-loud moments!

  4. I’d never seen a JHG musical before and am now wishing I could go back in time! Great music, choreo and performances. Anyone who grew up loving boy bands especially will enjoy connecting with the “boy” that was their type. The songs are still stuck in my head the next day and I’m not complaining!

  5. It’s hard to find the words for the praise I have for this show. I giggled nearly the entire time. It was such a funny story, packed with jokes, alive with music, yet never losing its heart. The end was a touching little cherry on an otherwise hilarious sundae. All five players brought their characters alive and the chemistry on stage was palpable and true. You’ve got to love when the actors make each other nearly break into laughter with little improvised bits. I have a feeling every single show is just a tad different. I was seriously blown away… the cockney nonsense, the pelvic thrusting, the redundant song intros… so many gut busting moments in the hour. How do they do it? The sound and video elements brought the whole piece home and kept everything moving along nicely. This show is an absolute must see.
    10/10

  6. Sugarboyz is a hilarious sendup of the 80’s Boy Bands. With wicked humour, (nods to Spinal Tap and Nigel Tufnel) Sugarboyz, (with names that wink at Spice Girls) skewers the 80’s boy bands’ adolescent raunchy attitudes and values and then sneaks in a positive message. Their sugar makes the medicine go down. Great lyrics and voices, farcical video ads, throwback choreography – this crew has successfully created a funny, entertaining fringe musical! *****

  7. JHG Creative does not disappoint! With goofy jokes, catchy tunes, fun choreography, and some surprisingly touching moments, Sugarboyz is a sweet treat.

  8. I fell in love with the Sugarboyz today ❤️ a hilarious show with a lot of heart! I was impressed by the production value, the tight choreography, and the incredible harmonies. Do not miss this show.

  16. We love everything this group puts out and this was no exception! It was hilarious and entertaining. The first show was completely sold out — the venue is small, so get your tickets in advance. Also, line up early as sitting near the front will provide the added bonus of seeing the actors’ facial expressions. I’d go again tomorrow!
