The Goose

  • Tin Fish

A man on a dirt-poor farm during the Great Depression rescues a goose trapped in a barbed wire fence. Later he meets a mysterious young woman and marries her, despite his mother’s objections that she is “a strange creature.” She seldom speaks and seems unfamiliar with simple tasks and customs. She is able to rescue the family from ruin by weaving beautiful blankets they can sell, insisting that no one watch her while she works.

Adapted from the traditional folk tale The Crane Wife, The Goose is a story of identity, self-sacrifice, belonging and the price of true love.

  1. Best play I’ve ever seen. Five star masterpiece. Highly recommend it to everyone. It should be repeated on bigger stages and throughout the world!

  2. I watched this show tonight and I rate it 5 stars. It flowed smoothly from one scene to the next, there was never a dull moment. There was also some comedic scenes that had the crowd laughing at several points. I highly recommend this play a lot.

  3. An exceptional piece of theatre based on a familiar tale. The Goose is phenomenally performed and spectacularly designed and directed. Don’t miss this one!

  4. Run don’t walk to see The Goose – completely beautiful from writing to sound design to the physicality of the acting. Highly recommend!

  5. Best play I’ve seen at the fringe so far this year. Actor are amazing, especially the woman playing the goose (love all the goose mannerisms she adds to her character). Writing is great, and avoids the sagging middle syndrome alot of fringe plays suffer with. Also had a shocking robust set considering the venue is shared by multiple productions. Overall, 5/5, I’d definitely add this to your list of must see shows. Given a few extra scenes to flesh out the ending and meet length requirements, I could see this show playing at the MTC warehouse in a few years as a part of there professional season. Well done

  6. I really liked The Goose, a quiet, moving story about love, mystery, and what happens when we push too far. The actors were awesome and made it all feel real, and the stage manager kept everything running so smoothly.

  7. Beautiful and clever.
The Goose is a Canadian take on a classic fable on what it means to love and be loved.
If you have the opportunity, go see the Goose.
