The Redemption of Heracles

  • Chronically Ch(ill) Productions

Before the Romans changed his name and Disney cleaned up his image, he was Heracles. A man tasked with 12 labours to redeem him of his greatest sin. Killing his wife and child.

A grudge-holding goddess, madcap puppet romps and the wife whose story got erased.

  1. I came for the new/true story of a Greek god. I almost left because of the telling. Lots to learn here about Heracles, so thanks for that. The performer’s powerful voice could have had more impact by employing range. It felt a bit unhinged. Uncharacteristically, this performance had me searching for an exit strategy.

  2. Hailey’s passion for her work here is evident and inspiring in her all out performance! I sometimes felt it was a little one-note in tone but there were plenty of moments that impacted me and her creativity utilizing her stage was fantastic. I would definitely recommend seeing this show for its powerful theming even if it just wasn’t quite my cup of tea personally.

  3. Hailley is one talented individual with the strongest diaphragm known to man. To be able to wail, and cry out like that for the entire run?! Insane. The story is so captivating, with multiple one-liners that left me going “damn..” and ones that will definitely stick. Hailley’s use of props and set pieces are SUCH AN AMAZING DEVICE: the way they serve their “one and done” purpose to reflect Heracles’ behaviour and how the “mess” onstage from dropped and thrown props reflect Heracles’ mess he left behind?!?!? INCREDIBLE. I left the venue with much to ponder on!

  4. Powerful in a word. Exhausting in another. But I mean that in the way that important, heartfelt work can leave one feeling stripped. I really wish I could reread the script, there were several absolute turns of phrase that left me, trying to clap silently because it wasn’t the time to break the scene. Razor sharp tension, her power to fill the room was so present. Loved it, wasn’t easy-breezey, but it wasnt meant to be

  5. It’s interesting to me how different people respond to the same thing. I love feminist retellings of Greek myths, but this wasn’t for me. I found the performer’s constant yelling (while entirely warranted given the story) unpleasant. The closest I’ve come to walking out of a Fringe show.

  6. Where do I even start with this show? It was my favourite so far by a significant margin. I’ve always enjoyed Hailley’s fresh takes on Greek myths and stories, but she has truly outdone herself this year; the props, the sharp take and new perspective, and the arresting switches between different characters. This is an incredible show, and a shorter one that should be easy to squeeze into your schedule no matter how busy.

  7. Powerful play. Hailley Rhoda gives voice to womsn and families impacted by domestic violence
