I Hope You Know

  • Interstellar Theatre Company

Niko and Dave have a complicated relationship. Niko being a 21-year-old queer theatre student and Dave being a (slightly conservative) middle-aged man. So, when they see each other for the first time since Niko was a kid, their conversation becomes just that. Complicated. With a short time limit and a monologue deadline on the horizon, Niko and Dave have to sort things out before this train ride is over, or they might never have the chance.

I Hope You Know is a heartfelt and comedic drama about finding connection with the people you need it from the most. It tackles the things we wish we could say to our parents and what we wish our parents would say to us. Written semi-autobiographically by Adia Branconnier, this piece is performed by the very people it’s written about.

  7. Wow! What a show. Beautiful. Special. Heart warming. What else do you need. Make sure you see this show!!

  8. This show is a MUST SEE. On its own, it is very well done, however when you give context to Adia’s age, that this is semi-autobiographical and that the costar is their bio dad, this was AMAZING. I hope we can hold onto Adia – they are destined for great things!! I can’t wait to watch their journey. I’m already a fan for life. Please bring another show next year!!!

  9. An absolutely delectable show. The actors perform so well and the characters are written to be so fleshed out and developed. This show will for sure make you laugh, then immediately right after makes you cry and then again make you laugh WHILE you’re still crying. I hope you know that you are missing out if you don’t watch this show.
    🌟🌟🌟🌟🌟

  10. Great performances by both actors. Unfortunately the play falls into an issue scene with many two person plays, with one performance being underwritten. It would be nice to scene the father’s role developed which would make this a longer play, but I think the performers are so strong the audience would have loved to stay with these characters longer. Definitely left the play wanting and hoping for more.

  11. Get your tickets now. They’re selling out for good reason, this show is stunning. I wept and so did everyone, not a dry eye in the place. Bravo

  12. Powerful story, excellent writing, incredible acting – loved it!

  14. One of my favourite shows at fringe. It was so easy to connect with the characters and they were well thought out. It is a heartwarming story, with silliness, awkwardness, and love. I am so happy i got to watch it.

  15. I went into this show knowing that the actors are actual child and father, and the entire time I was completely breathless and fully immersed in their world they had created. To be able to perform this incredible, HONEST piece of theatre speaks volumes about the lengths of this duo’s relationship and what they’ve overcome to be able to get HERE. I was part of the audience that gave a standing ovation as it was so well deserved!! Congratulations. The playwright is still in school and they are going places, no doubt about it!!

The show is relevant for all ages and generations. Whether or not you relate to the experiences of a queer child navigating their identity and acceptance, there is something in this show for you to resonate with. The palpable awkwardness, the perfectly timed comedic punches, and the genuine emotion in this work is going to be living rent free in my mind for the whole fest.

  33. An incredibly honest and beautiful story, but still very relatable. I Hope You Know is funny, heart-breaking, and beautiful. The writing is just as compelling as the stellar performances. If you only have a chance to see one show, go see this one!

  34. Incredible! I wasn’t sure what to expect but was absolutely blown away by this show! The cast was phenomenal. You truly felt as though you were witnessing the evolution of this complex relationship between child & parent. There were moments of tension & discomfort, hilarity & deep sadness that had me in tears. In the end it is a heartwarming story of love that left me with a lump in my throat & need to shout from the rooftops YOU MUST SEE THIS SHOW!

  35. Such a funny, well written production that covers a variety of subject matter that would make its way into many households and families. Moments of laughter, tears and reflection kept me wanting more. Best show I have seen I a long time!

  36. A touching, funny, and honest look at family, identity, and second chances. Wonderful show, a must see!

  37. Saw it on the second day of fringe and I’m seriously considering it one of the best shows this year! The Lizzy McGuire-esque asides had me roaring with laughter and both characters’ journey through the show had me in tears. Equally gutbusting and tearjerking. I’m gonna be seriously mad if this show doesn’t get AT LEASR 4.5 stars.

  38. While the show is about a specific scenario, I think it’s about something universally relatable. It’s got laughs and truly heart touching moments that is a rare find and an immediate recommendation from me. Go see it!

  39. A pairing of quick witted humour and gut punching moments left the entire audience in tears. Authentic acting paired with a script that candidly approaches generational gaps with playfulness and honesty. ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

  40. This show is insanely good. The performances from Adia and Mike were incredible. It’s almost unbelievable to know that the writer and lead is 17 years old. It’s the best Fringe show I’ve ever seen.

  42. Incredible, incredible, INCREDIBLE show. I laughed, I cried (and cried). Such an impressive feat by cast and crew alike— and at their age is insanely impressive!
