Stark Raving
Winnipeg Free Press five stars awardee and Harry S. Rintoul honourable mentioned Ethan Stark is beyond excited to present his new play, Our Father, the story of two siblings, Sophie and Oliver, who, against all odds, are, BE NOT AFRAID, woah, um, sorry, not sure what happened there.
So anyway, these two siblings are planning the funeral of their father after years of estrangement from one another and themselves, but! Through mutual – DENY THREE TIMES, I’m so sorry, did anybody else hear that just now? Hahaha what am I even saying, how would you even hear that, you’re not in the room while I write this, um, so, as I was saying, this play, WE WERE HERE, seriously – what the hell is going on???
Our Father, was so well written and the actors did a phenomenal job! Ethan Stark’s writing is truly an incredible, a one of a kind artist, seeing his work is a must!
I hardly ever say I want to rewatch plays, but Our Father is the exception. It’s fantastically well-written, and as a trans guy myself, it speaks to the transgender experience so heartbreakingly well that it brought me to tears. It was a little abstract, which only added to the symbolism surrounding the play, as well as Ethan’s life derailing in the story. 10/10, still sticks with me days after, and I have a feeling it’ll stick with me for the rest of my life.
Amazing watch! Delightful and heart wrenching stuff. We loved it so much 💕
Deeply affecting and awesomely performed show. Made me feel really seen as a trans man who’s had to leave behind my christian upbringing and my relationship with my parents. Really important story to share <3 bravi tutti and thanks for helping me feel less alone
Profoundly moving story that was unfortunately difficult to follow. Voices were confusing, difficult to hear and disjointed. Disappointing.
Ethan… the man that you are oh, my, GOD (literally). You have full permission to yell your 10 min monologue at me anytime. I also volunteer as tribute to bring people who are desperately in need of being yelled at by you too
This show needs to get to off-Broadway or on the West End. This show is a gift. Thank you Ethan bravo bravo bravo
oh my god (pun intended), what a show, it is deeply moving and so well written. it’s one of those shows you will never forget, i wish i was closer to downtown i would see this show every day i could. I can’t even express how amazing this show is, it’s a must see !!!
this show was so powerful, made me sob for so long after and I havent stopped thinking about it since. I feel so seen, it felt like words were plucked from my brain and shown to me onstage. I wish I could see it again and again and again. five stars
A deeply personal show with an important message, but unfortunately it lacks direction. While I understood what it was trying to convey, weak performances and consistently confusing plot-lines made it difficult for that message to resonate.
As a result, the show’s emotional impact gets lost in translation.
Black Hole training at its finest. Ethan always knows how to pull at your heartstrings, and to be so vulnerable with this piece is one of the most beautiful things about it. The cast, paired with Bill’s direction, are absolutely incredible. Standout moments are the chant and song. Extremely well deserved 5 robots <3
Amazing performances! This play digs deep, delving into the things we choose not to say or do (and why)… and what happens when we finally have the courage to say and do them. Two thumbs up!
Wow! An intense and compelling experience seeing Our Father! Ethan Stark has woven 3 plays into one seamlessly. My attention never wavered. 5 stars!
This play grabs you right from the start and doesn’t let go. The humor is genuine, the emotional moments hit hard. Our Father made me feel like I chose the right thing to spend my precious free time on. I laughed hard, I cried hard—sometimes both at once. Beautifully done. I highly recommend it!!
⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️!!! An incredibly moving performance. A must see for sure! Bravo to all involved!
Heart wrenchingly amazing performance, I’ll be back tomorrow, with tissues this time
