The (Un)Official (Un)Researched History of Manitoba

VoLto

Did you listen in history class? Neither did we! That’s why VoLto Theatre joined forces with the theoretically funny SensibleChuckleTheatre (Let’s Kill A Dragon 2024) on a brand-new wildly imaginative, likely inaccurate, journey through time: The (Un)Official (Un)Researched History of Manitoba

From cavepeople battling dinosaur diplomacy to our war with Panama, this fast-paced comedy blends total absurdity with fierce local pride. Packed with potentially real characters, satire and inside jokes only locals will truly appreciate, this show celebrates the quirks and spirit of the middle province.

It’s a Manitoban love letter that invites all people to laugh at both history and themselves. No Saskatchewanonans allowed.

  1. This show was amazing!! The performers knocked it out of the park, had us laughing out loud the whole time. 5 stars!

  2. Very funny even if you don’t know much about Manitoba history. Even funnier if you do!

  3. This show was fabulous! Endlessly witty, heart-warming, charming, and (gasp!) even educational. The performers have wonderful chemistry together and everyone shine on their own, too!

The History gag was such a perfect representation of what this show is: a self-aware love letter to our province, the place that doesn’t always care about loving us back.

  4. The show has a comedic style akin to Mel Brooks and his History of the World Part 1. The laughs are a mile a minute and there is a profound love of the “source material” that permeates the lampoon. Well done to everyone involved!

  5. Love the humour of the Sensible Chuckle theatre! Two years on a row had me laughing out loud!

  6. Ohh my.. laughing 90% of the entire hour. This show was so clever and hilarious!! Highly recommend!!

  7. Me and my friend have been following this group and each year their shows are getting better but the venues are getting smaller.
If these guys don’t get a bigger venue next year, WE RIOT!

  8. Amazing show and absolutely hilarious! Highly recommended seeing this one for a good laugh and all the inside jokes of Manitoba! Amazing cast!

  9. Really enjoyed this show. Funny and great chemistry between the actors. Very funny.

  10. A fun filled evening with plenty of laughs and true awesome writing on relatable places and events of Manitoba- with a cast that made it seamless and time evening flew by. Well done indeed !

  11. Real stupid in the best possible way!! You can tell this company has been honing in their craft and jokes over the years and they know what will make an audience laugh. Every scene is well timed and their use of the technology adds to the performance without weighing it down.
Overall the actors did a great job at playing multiple characters and caricatures of Manitobans, even with some questionable accents. If you want a light-hearted, but riot of a comedy that will make you fall in love with our beautiful province, go check it out!!

  12. Hilarious! A great unofficial history lesson with many laughs and clever jokes. Would definitely recommend seeing this!

  13. Been living in MB only 3 years and we absolutely loved this show! It encapsulates everything we love and everything we complain about this wonderful, unique province, led by a fantastic cast ! Raging talent, excellent comedy, excellent references. 150% recommend !

  14. It’s ridiculous in the best possible way. Clever Manitoba jokes and puns had me giggling from start to finish!

  15. A gut-busting love letter to Manitoba from clearly true Manitobains. Fast-paced, clever, and packed with sharp observations, this show celebrates everything that makes our province unique while poking fun at it in all the right ways. If you secretly love Manitoba and Winnipeg, you’ll feel right at home…and if you’re usually the first to complain about Peg city, there’s plenty to enjoy in the playful jabs. I laughed the whole way through and left with an even bigger appreciation for this quirky corner of the world. An absolute blast. I’d happily watch it again.

  16. A hilarious show that doesn’t take itself seriously for a second. It’s less of a history lesson and more a bunch of entertaining, made-up nonsense. Had me laughing all the way through. Definitely worth checking out.

  17. Loved this show! So many tongue in cheek comments of our fair province. Would definitely recommend!

  18. A quick-paced comedy, packed with non-stop laughs, great local references, and an excellent cast. All ’round a superb show. Would definitely recommend seeing this one!
