Shoestring Players
Set in Winnipeg The Glass Between Us follows two women who never see each other yet form a friendship that transforms them both. Having left an abusive marriage, Kate decides to venture into the unpredictable and often hilarious world of online dating. On the neighbouring balcony is Marge, an older woman who offers sharp wit and steady wisdom to their daily balcony conversations.
Through bad dates and brave truth-telling, small triumphs unfold. As Kate learns that promising profiles are not always rooted in reality, she also discovers that when we dare to speak, we dare to heal. Tough like a daisy, the play explores resilience, self-discovery and how friendships can give us the encouragement to bloom again.
Very enjoyable and fun show with some tugs at the heart towards the end! I would have loved seeing more development with Marge as a significant character to the end goal of the play, perhaps in favor of one of the dates which felt a bit uneccesary to the story. However it does not detract from the overall great script and onstage acting! Make sure to see this show!
This hidden gem of a play will speak to any lady who sees it. The journey of Kate is a journey we have all been on before. We have had those dates and felt the way she feels. Simply a must see. Armondo and Steve were brilliant as well.
I so enjoyed Shoestring’s “The Glass Between Us!” The play was beautifully written with a balance of humour and pathos. I loved the exaggerated portrayals of the four dates – or four “types” we gals have all encountered! Everything that happened stage left (at a restaurant) was wonderfully over-the-top. It worked! Stage right, the balconies, grounded us in reality. It was where we witnessed the private pain shared by the two main characters, and where we followed the personal growth of Kate (Leslie Boardman) as she “checked in” with Marge (Rhonda Kennedy Rogers) every evening. Those scenes were vey moving.
Kudos to the four actors who provided background action in the restaurant scenes, Interesting but unobtrusive – just right! Congratulations to director Christine Reimer and to playwright Kathy Einarsson on her first-ever performed play!
Wonderful heartfelt show with some hilarious moments . Love the growth and respect shown to the main character Kate and the dates were all great. Definitely a must see.
