Former friends Kawtar and Jesse may not survive their first encounter since the world changed. Over two decades ago, the Utopic New Order was established by the Company Open Trench. Over the years, the Company provided two labels for humans to make living simpler – the protectors (Blites) and the resources (Blinks).

Jesse is a Blite chosen for ascension by the Open Trench, and Kawtar is a Blink valuable for her wit and strength. Today, Kawtar is about to be replaced (or worse) and Jesse must announce the devastating news to Kawtar in order to ascend, by order of the company.

In this desperate race against time, long-forgotten secrets surface while Kawtar and Jesse bargain their way through crucial questions on their fate and that of humankind. The world may have changed, but have they?
