The Delicates Dealer
In this developing reflection of her mother’s suicide 10 years ago, Devyna’s solo performance uses sculpture, storytelling and dance to ask: could we create, when we can kill?
She honours her mother’s love of her dancing, and her love of her mother, to explore the most natural progression in the world: birth, life and change. And how is this progression impacted under the seemingly unnatural circumstance of suicide.
Maintaining a delicate balance between rage and compassion, sadness and hope, she invites you to suspend in that place with her.
I saw this show 3 days ago and I’m still thinking about it. It was so beautiful and the way it was shown through sign language, dance, emotion, and commentary was powerful. Sometimes I felt the message wasn’t super clear, but it was presented in a way that has kept me thinking. And I think that is truly beautiful.
Making something beautiful from something so painful and relatable. A powerful and gracefully danced show that had everyone entranced. My heart is moved and I’m still hearing the music in my head.

Really liked this show (I know what the sculpture is now too; was thinking about it on my drive home). The production left me thinking, and it’s delivered with such a lovely rawness that I think you’ll leave the show with a bit more fuel in your tank too. 🙂
What a beautifully sincere piece. Dance accompanied by a mixture of music and a voice-over story written in a very evocative prose rich in symbolism. If you love emotional honesty and an artist who is willing to be vulnerable, this is something you need to see.
Exquisite! Devyna is an incredible dancer and communicator. Her tragic story is told with such grace and power. Unbelievable! You must go and experience this amazing show!
