Good Morning Productions
We all had that one high school classmate who’d brag about his “real girlfriend” who “lives in another city.” But, what if those stories weren’t just true, but also truly absurd? What if the fairy tale of young love blurred the lines between finding yourself and losing yourself? What if that “real girlfriend” was you?
This raw and darkly funny memoir follows two very different people through a 15-year timeline – from star-crossed teen lovers to the heaviest shadows of each other’s past. Your Real Girlfriend from Canada weaves together true stories of youthful recklessness, culture shock and heartbreak.
This show takes a blunt but compassionate view into the mess that occurs when people love each other badly, and the aftermath that is equally formative, complex and very, very real.
I saw this show twice and was captivated both times. It is both funny and harrowing. Hannah is such an engaging personality and storyteller, you won’t be able to look away. And you might have tears streaming down your face like I did. Highly recommend if you need something that feels like an emotional roller coaster experience with a bittersweet ending. It’s all the things you want from a Fringe show!
Go see this show! Hannah’s story and reflections are full of authenticity. Loved the added elements that were brought to this storytelling show, as I was captivated from the first minute. It’s wonderfully crafted with moments of charm, heart, wit, and vulnerability. Highly recommend!
Hannah tells of hard-won life lessons with humour and heart. I was gripped by the sweet, the funny, the harrowing, and the candour. A very well-told story of strength, resourcefulness and grit from this new talent.
Hannah delivers a story I wouldn’t believe if I didn’t know it to be true- with confidence, charm and a command of the stage. Incredibly relatable and powerful to anyone who has been is a less than ideal relationship, and compelling commentary on what happens when we allow labels to define us; with moments of comedy included!
This story of young love and lessons learned left me deep in my feels. Relatable, poised and charming, Hannah had us captivated.
A one woman tour de force through trauma and personal growth. Sweet, funny, engaging and thoughtful. This is the best of fringe.
Hannah is an engaging and poised storyteller that seamlessly incorporates comedy and theatrical flair to an otherwise dark but very real experience that doesn’t sugar coat itself. You might laugh when you shouldn’t! Recommended.
