Joyce is a young woman desperately waiting to catch her bus after her first (and last) disastrous day at her new downtown job. She has an unexpected meeting with Paul, a homeless man who happens to be living in the bus shelter. The resulting conversation between the pair, as well as chance encounters with various individuals roaming about the streets at night, have far-reaching and life-altering implications for both of them.
This stark and thought-provoking inner-city drama is from the creators of past Fringe hits The Social (4 1/2 STARS), Rob and Jenny’s First Date, and the sold-out run of The Beginner’s Guide To Suicide.
A portion of the ticket sales will be donated to The Main Street Project.
Twas like a pita packed with rotisserie chicken, lettuce and tomatoes and condiment of choice
A wonderfully thoughtful show by the end that may leave you considering your everyday choices and considerations of those around you. Though at times certain acting felt wooden or characters exaggerated a bit too much, neither detracted from my overall enjoyment!
Each actor brought strong performances with special kudos to Dan’s infuriating snobbiness, two brand new fringers who were phenomonal (sorry I can’t recall your names!) And of course Dave Pruden is a superstar in his role.
Only a couple more days to check out a great show well worth its 4 stars!
Curious story points that become tragic. Very well performed.
We saw this show after hearing recommendations at other shows and were honestly really bummed out by how patronizing it was. As people who have lived and worked downtown for 13 years, it felt very much like it was written by someone with no understanding of what our downtown is like.
There is a plot point that undermines the entire message of invisibility unhoused persons experience, ultimately disrespecting the unhoused characters they were writing.
I saw this play on Friday July 17th and I can say it is quality over quantity. It’s around 45 minutes long but there is definitely no filler or lulls in the story, once it picks up it keeps chugging along straight to the point. Great performances all around from the actors and it tells a very important message. I recommend it a lot! 4/5 stars.
Dark Horse Theatre does it again with another wonderful Fringe play. I left the theatre yesterday feeling enlightened and with a need to examine my own unconscious biases. A play that speaks to your heart. (Or should!!). Note to be aware of the swearing. Doesn’t distract from the play, just fyi for patrons.
